It has been nearly 2 months since the last plugin release so it seems to be about time time for a quick update on what I have been working on lately.
My primary focus over these months has been on refactoring a lot of the code powering the shader graph editor. So far there are no new features, but this refactoring should make it much easier for me to add support for more Cycles nodes like RGB ramp and XYZ curves as well as new features like copy and paste.
I also intend to release a plugin update soon to handle two bugs that have recently come to my attention. First, Shader Graph materials are currently entirely broken in Max 2019. Second, mesh tangents are frequently translated incorrectly in all Max versions. I hope to have this update ready for release in about a week.
Update - July 14: The next release is nearly ready now, but I've recently found a bug that can cause renders to hang up during scene translation. I'll be holding back the release just a few more days while I fix this problem.
I have just released version Beta 2.00 of this plugin. This version brings support for Max 2019 as well as a handful of bug fixes and minor improvements. You can get it now on the download page.
Along with this release, I have also updated the recently-released manual to cover more of the plugin's features. If you have viewed the manual before, you may need to clear your browser cache (or ctrl+f5) to see the new version. I've reconfigured the web server so this problem shouldn't happen again with the next update.
It has come to my attention that most of AWS is currently blocked in Russia. I'm not sure whether this affects S3, which is where the downloads for this plugin are currently hosted.
To any users from Russia: please let me know in a comment here if you are having any problems with the download. If it is blocked I'll rehost it elsewhere.
If you find this inconvenient please direct all negative feedback to Roskomnadzor.
Edit: Actually, you should probably email me at email@example.com if you have any problems. I think ReCAPTCHA may be blocked as well and that would stop you from posting a comment.
Lately this news feed has had a bit of a problem with bots posting spam comments. I've just added some fresh anti-spam tech to the website which should help cut down on this in the future.
In unrelated news, work on the next version is coming along well. The next release will include support for Max 2019 among other things. I'm still not sure exactly when it will be ready, but it is coming eventually, probably within a month.
I have just posted a download for version Beta 1.08. This release includes a number of new features and bug fixes and is available on the download page.
Beta 1.08 is the first release to include the new shader exporter for Blender. This allow Cycles shaders created in Blender to be exported for use in 3ds Max. I've made a short video showing off how this works.
