Cycles for Max

New Release Coming Soon

It has now been a few weeks since Blender 2.80 has released and I'd like to provide a quick update about the next release of this plugin.

I had initially planned to have this release ready early this month, but I have run into a few issues that have slowed me down. Right now I am working to track down the source of some bugs that can sometimes cause 3ds Max to completely crash during a render, and this has proven more difficult than I expected. I will definitely be holding the next release back until I get this all fixed up as random crashes are just no good.

In addition to the small bit of remaining programming work, I still need to update the documentation and do some thorough testing, which means this next release will still be at least a week away from today. Right now I expect it will be ready some time in early september.

This release will include a lot of goodies from Blender 2.80 including but not limited to:

Expect more news on this release to be coming soon.

Been testing it a bit, you did a good job on it already that's for sure, yet some more attention to some stuff like max's mix maps not rendering properly wouldn't hurt for sure ) those are essential for a lot of things in max.

Another suggestion would be to add environment overrides in render settings (just like the ones Corona renderer has) those are quite useful, especially in max 2020.2+ with it's new fancy pbr friendly, hdri lit viewport which definitely doesn't like any other maps but regular bitmaps, and goes into comatose state when Cycles env. map is used in the environment slot. Maybe making the Principle Bsdf being able to properly work in the new 2020.2 viewport with all it's bells and whistles wouldn't hurt as well but i guess i'm getting a tad too greedy here ))))
